Olivia – Series G

Size: (5″ x 52)
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Maduro
Strength: Medium
Personal Rating: 4.5
Price: $3.50 per stick

For those of you looking for a smooth, flavorful cigar for not much out of pocket, I would recommend the Olivia Series G. The craftsmanship is wonderful with the wrapper having a nice oily sheen. This cigar burns great, allowing you to leave on the ash for quite awhile. The flavor, a sweet-coffee mix, stays throughout the entire smoke. This is one affordable cigar that really satisfies.

Dunhill – Signed Range

Size: Toro (6.0″ x 50)
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Strength: Medium to Full
Personal Rating: 3/5
Price: around $10.00

Honestly for the price I was expecting more. I happen to try one of these because a friend was gracious enough to buy me one. For me, it became very bland very quickly. It started off spicy and close to the end it picked right back up but the in between really let me down. I’ve never had a cigar close and regain it’s flavor and strength before either. Very odd in my opinion.

This is the first cigar I’ve wrote about here that I wouldn’t recommend to many smokers out there. But I encourage you to try it and give it your own review.

Captain Black – White Pouch

Brand: Captain Black
Blender: Lane Limited
Country of Origin: US
Contents:
Cavendish
Black Cavendish
Cut: Ribbon
Strength: Mild
Flavoring: Medium
Taste: Mild to Medium

This is my go-to tobacco. Captain Black tobacco can be found at most stores that sell tobacco and at a decent price! There is a slight nutty taste to it as well as a nice vanilla flavor. This is a very aromatic tobacco that fills the air with a sweet fragrance. The sweet vanilla undertone can best be tasted by using a slow puff. Heating can occur with a fast puff, so I recommened to sit back with this one and take your time.

Arturo Fuente – Special Selection

Size: Cervantes (6.5″ x 43)
Wrapper: Ecuador/USA/Connecticut
Strength: Mild to Medium
Personal Rating: 4/5
Price: around $3.00

So this was officially my first Arturo Fuente and I must say, WOW. I’m generally a mild smoker but this cigar was somewhere inbetween and it was a cigar I could easily handle. It was very leathery, in a good way, and was a bit peppery all the way through. It had a taste that is still with me 30 minutes later. This cigar is something that anyone would enjoy smoking but is smooth enough for a newbie to try as a next step for stronger cigars. I highly recommend this and will definitely be trying more Arturo Fuente’s.

Padilla – Miami

Size: Julieta aka Churchhill (7.0″ x 47)
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo
Strength: Full
Personal Rating: 4/5
Price: around $8.00

So as my counter-part pointed out, in his introduction post, I am a cheap cigar smoker. I take it as a personal mission to find a good cigar at a good price. That being said this was the first cigar I’ve smoked that was over $6.00 and now I see why people are willing to spend that little extra to get that bang all cigars strive for.

The cigar was very smooth and backed by a delightful peppery taste, I was quite please. Though I am admittedly not a full flavored cigar smoker this was one that I seemed to be able to handle. It burned perfectly and left me satisfied, pretty much like sex. Yes.. this cigar was like sex. I also consider my first CAO Gold like sex… man, that was a good one.

I would recommend it for anyone above the ranking of “newbie”.
